Pictures of the Week: October 20, 2015

Our picture of the week has quadrupled!
I am giving you 4 pictures of the week this week.
We are learning how to write opinions and we are going to apply that to our
picture of the week this week.

Look at the following photographs that show each of the 4 seasons.

Fall

Spring

Summer

Winter
STUDENTS: Which season of the year is your favorite?
I want you to give reasons and evidence to support your opinion.
I expect you to write more than one sentence.
In my comments though, I will just be focusing on your opinion since that is what we are
focusing on this week in English.

** Be sure to write your name at the end of your comment.

Picture of the Week: September 28, 2015

You have done a wonderful job with the other photos we have had this month.
I have seen you improve so much with them.
This week I want you to have some fun!

You are going to write a narrative.
A narrative is another name for a story.

So you will have the following in your comment.
characters
setting
problem
solution

STUDENTS: Let's begin by making this simple.
I want you to write the BEGINNING of a story.
Introduce me to the cat.
Introduce me to a problem the cat had that will lead it to taking a bath in the sink.
Remember the beginning of a story introduces you to the
character, setting and the problem.

** Don't forget to put your name in the comment.

PIcture of the Week: September 14, 2015

STUDENTS:  This picture makes me think of many things.

1.  Harry Potter had to pull a dragon out of a bag in one of the books.
He had to steal an egg from the dragon.
2.  We use to sing a song about bringing home a baby bumblee
and how our mom would be proud of us.  However, the bee wound up stinging.

We are going to follow that line of thought.
Study the picture.

PROMPT:
Imagine you have caught this dragon.
You want to keep it as a pet.
Why would you want a dragon as a pet?

**Remember to put your name at the end of your comment.

Picture of the Week: September 8, 2015

STUDENTS:  Each week, I am going to place a photograph or picture on the blog.
I want you to use this time to look at the photograph,
and then answer the prompt underneath.

PROMPT:
Finish this sentence.

Sometimes, I just like to lay on my lily pad
and think about ___________.

Monday Made It: July 20

Well, I didn't make it last week, but here I am with my first
ALL SCHOOL
Monday Made It, thanks to 4th Grade Frolics.
I really have enjoyed this link up each week.
Next week I will have a ton (hopefully) because this is my last full week of summer break.

Last week we had 4 days of PD with our school and grade level from all over the county.
My first Monday Made It was suppose to be for that.

When I went to our Common Core training this summer, they mentioned this method to help students retell what they had learned.  It is called the GIST method.
You can get it in my TPT store for free.
(I promise to liven it up a little later, but I wanted to get it made.)
This is a great way for you to see if your students can answer basic questions about what they have read as well as summarize what they have read in 20 words or less.
I loved it and can't wait to use it!

So much of my teaching is done in small groups.
A few years ago, I realized I was not allowing the students to be leaders in these small groups.
So I found the TEAM method.
I have slept since then, and I have searched Pinterest high and low to find where I got this idea.
However, I cannot find it AT ALL!!!!

In the past few years, I just had the jobs listed and each person knew what they were.
However, with observations and make the learning more student centered, I figured I needed these jobs to be more prominent.  So, I made these last night.

I bought lanyards and badge holders from Amazon.
I did not want them huge, so they are smaller than some might like.
I am going to use these at the beginning of the school year, and then move into badges that just have the job name on them.  I just figured at the beginning they will need to be reminded of what their job is suppose to do!  Then, later on in the year, I can make them cuter as well!
You can get the set in my TPT store for free.

I can't believe the school year is here!
I can't wait to share my classroom with you and see what you all have been making as well.
Happy Creating!

Cooking Up Success Calendar

When I decided to do a Cafe/Bakery theme a few years ago,
I quickly realized there was NOTHING out there for this room theme.
Therefore, I was made had to figure out to make different things to fit my classroom theme.
I have always seemed to make things harder than they really have to be.

One of the very first things I made was this calendar set.
It was BAD!
I put it up on TPT for free, and it was still BAD!

So, I decided to spruce it up a bit as well as add some things to it.

Here are the month cards.
I figure you can use them as headers for your calendars, but could also put them at a center to put the months of the year in order.

I then decided to add number cards to the set as well.
They were in a separate set, but, again, needed a makeover!
Again, these could also be used at a center to put numbers in order.

In a previous set, I had some special days cards, but while I was on a roll, I decided to do a little more with them.

I love using these in my room, and can't wait to see how the new set looks in my room this year.
You can get this set here for FREE for a limited time!
I will be honest -
It took quite a bit of time, so they will not stay free for long!
Hope these can help you
Cook Up Success
in your room this year.
