A Home on the Nile: To Build or Not to Build?

Gifts of the Nile River

The Nile River runs through the middle of Egypt.

Most of the country is desert.

On each side of the river there is a strip of fertile land.

In ancient times the Nile flooded and spread rich, black silt over the land every year.

The main crops were wheat and barley for making bread and beer.

They could sail up and down the Nile trading goods they had made or grown.

The waters of the Nile were also used to water the land next to the river.  This is called irrigation.

Their calendar was based on the annual rise and fall of the river.

The Nile also provided protection from enemies.

The ancient Egyptians started making paper from the papyrus plant.

  1. The Nile river is the longest river in the world. I would not build a home on the Nile river. This is why when ever it is spring it floods a ton. It will flood because it rains a lot,and because there is ice on the mountain and it melts and it flows down off into the river.I would also not because it is very hot.
It is hot because it is very close to the eaqater. That is why I would not build next to the Nile river.
    The Nile is awsome

Yes, I would want to build a house on nile. The aswan dam stops the nile from flooding by standing in the way. The nile leaves rich soil behind when animals poop. You can grow blackberries, squash, tomatos,,carots, and other healthy foods. That is why I would build a house on the nile. By Benjamin.

  18. The Nile river is the longest river in the world. It starts at Lake Victoria and ends at the Meditterean Sea. I would like to live on the Nile. I would like to live on the Nile because I would have good crops. Heavy rainstorms make the crops grow. Water rushes down mountains into the Nile and makes soil very rich. I would also like to live there because it has plants and plants bring oxegen for us and we give them carbendeoxside. Plants help us breath and we help them stay alive. Plants will help us to be healthy at the Nile. That is why I want to live on the Nile. Lilly Allen

  25. I would not build a home near the Nile because it would destroy homes And if the Aswan Dam breaks it could flood. Also if I don't build the villages up above the level of the river it could also flood. The floodwaters could also be dangerous. If it was a long time ago and i went to build a house beside the Nile river and the Aswan Dam was not build yet it could flood. That is why I would not not build a home by the Nile. By: McKenzie A
